Good morning the honorable
judges, the committee of speech contest who I respectfully as well, the
participants, and all of the spectators, thank for the time. Firstly, let’s say
thanks to Ida Sang Hyang Widhi Wasa who has given us blessing so we can gather here
in this special moment. Secondly, I would like to introduce myself. My name is
I Putu Rio Chandrabawa Adi Wiguna. I’m a student from Vocational School 2 Sukawati.
Ladies and gentlemen, in this good occasion, I’d like to deliver a
speech with the topic of “Beauty and Uniqueness of Balinese Culture”. At first,
I would like to tell you about Bali at the glance. Secondly, I would like to
tell you about some of arts, cultures, and traditions which make Bali be a
unique and beautiful island. Ladies and gentlemen, In
Indonesia, as far as we know that Bali is the most famous island in the
worldwide and that’s indisputable without any doubts. This island is located in
south of equator. It’s not large, but we can see lots of traditions, cultures,
and arts. It also has lots of histories,
legends, and natures that make Bali will be the most favorite destination for tourists
who want to enjoy here. There are lots of tourists who decided to come to Bali
for spending their holiday every year. Ladies and gentlemen, in Bali, arts,
cultures, and religion have been deeply embeded in the Balinese’s society and
every activities are also based on arts, cultures and religion. Although foreign
cultures have influenced in Bali, it doesn’t cause our local culture
destructed. Precisely, it makes diversity of culture in our island. Balinese
cultures are living based on Tri Hita Karana of a concept that included
spiritual relationship between human, God, and their environment.
Ladies and gentlemen, Bali is really amazing even we can say that
Bali is the richest island in the world with cultures, arts, natures, and
traditions. Every village or regency in Bali have their own characteristic
which make the tourist has a lot of destinations in Bali. Recently, we have
heard a greatest news that nine of our Balinese dances have recognized to be
the intangible cultural heritage of UNESCO. Those are rejang dance, sanghyang
dedari dance, baris dance, sidakarya mask dance, gambuh dance, wayang wong
dance, bebali dance, joged bumbung dance, and the last one is barong ket
kuntisraya dance. Wow, that’s great and we as Balinese people, must be proud
that the world is really respect on our culture.
And the second one, Bali also has a lot
of tourist objects which offer a beautiful nature and an amazing view. As I
said, Bali is really rich of its traditions, arts and cultures. Those
traditions and cultures are only can be seen in Bali. It also is a legacy that
is preserved form generation to generation. Just take some examples such as omed-omedan which
will be held every year a day after silent day in Sesetan district, perang
pandan which will be held in Tenganan village, mekotekan which will be held in
mengwi district of Badung regency, makepung which will be held in Jembrana
regency, and others.
Not only the cultures and the
traditions, but also the tourist objects that make Bali be a unique and
beautiful. In this occasion, I will tell
you only four tourist objects which have their own cultures. Those are Trunyan
village, Tenganan village, Sukawati district, and Jatiluwih village. Let’s
start from Trunyan village. This village is located in Kintamani district of Bangli regency.
In this village we can see an ancient ethnic of Bali that is “Bali Aga”. This
village has one culture that so different and we think it’s unusual, as we
know, if there’s person who died, he/she will be buried in the grave, but the
people who live in this village will just lie him/her down on the ground. But, the
dead body will not make stenchy, because of the taru menyan’s tree which grows
near the grave will neutralize the stench. The second one is Tenganan village.
This village is located in Manggis district of Karangasem regency which has
lots of cultures, one of them is gringsing cloth which made by using Tenun Ikat
Ganda technique. For your information, there are just three places in
the world
which use this technique, such as in Tenganan village with gringsing cloth, in Okinawa
archipelago with tate-yoko gasuri cloth, and the last one is in India with
patola cloth. The style of buildings in Tenganan village are ancient and there
are no technologies as well and so it makes Tenganan village has a
characteristic that’s so unique. Third one is Sukawati district which located
in gianyar regency. In this district, we also can see lots of arts and cultures
are there, such as statue art in Batubulan village, traditional dances
performance like kecak dance, barongan dance, legong dance, Sang Hyang Jaran
dance, etc in Batubulan village too. The
fourth one is Jatiluwih which has a culture as we know that is Subak and its
nature is beautiful with terrace of the rice field.
Well, ladies and gentlemen, from all of these traditions, arts,
cultures in Bali, there’s no doubt that if we say that bali as a unique and
beautiful island. So, let’s keep the beauty and uniqueness of our island, let’s
preserve our traditions, arts and cultures stay everlasting in the future
because we are the only one who will determine the future of our island.
That’s all of my speech. I apologize for my mistakes on my words. Thank
you for your attention and have a nice day.
Om Cantih, Cantih, Cantih,
Om
