MAINTAINING
BALINESE CULTURE AND ITS OUTSTANDING VALUES
Om
Swastiastu,
Honorable,
all the juries and the committee of this English speech contest and also the
other contestants and everyone who attending this place, thank you for the
time.
First
of all, let’s say thank to Ida Sang Hyang Widhi Wasa who has given us mercies
and blessings so we can meet and join this contest without any trouble.
Secondly,
I would like to introduce myself to you. My name is Ni Made Mahayuni. I’m a
student from Vocational High School number 2 Sukawati.
Ladies
and gentlemen,
In
this good occasion, I would like to deliver a short speech about “Maintaining
Balinese Cultures and Its Outstanding values. There are some points that I want
to talk, such as the beautiful of Balinese cultures, the problem Balinese
people who make Balinese cultures are gone, how to maintain Balinese cultures,
and the effect if we can save Balinese cultures.
As
we know bali province has nine regencies which each regency itself is divided
to be more parts that we cannot counted by
finger. So, we can imagine that bali has many cultural diversities. We can see
from gianyar regency, It has beautiful kecak dance which makes us feel so excited
if we watch it. Still in gianyar regency, exactly in singapadu village there
are many sculptures who can make wonderful and beautiful statues. In another regency, like singaraja. It has Wayang
Wong / human pupet for its icon in the world and the international people are excited
with bali because bali has amazing culture that we cannot find in the another
place. For the another example, even bali just a little piece of Indonesia, but
bali has many kinds of its own cultures, such as about their culinary, dances,
traditions, arts and folksong, etc. If we review again, bali has many traditional
dances which make tourists are interested to visit bali and watch the glamourous
dancer dancing the Balinese dance. Beside of that, Balinese cultures were born
from generation to generation, so if that Balinese cultures just stuck until
our generation, who else will know about Balinese cultures? Who want to know
about it? What a pity that Balinese people don’t know about their own cultures.
Ladies
and gentlemen,
Because
of this globalization era, Most of Balinese people tend to follow the Western
lifestyle. They prefer to dance modern dance to Balinese dance. They prefer to
sing Western or Korean song to their own folksongs. Those things cause Balinese
cultures get less attention from teenagers. For the example, in this occasion,
we talk in English. Many people think if we speak in English or Indonesian, it
can make them be cool. Am I right? Balinese people do not want to save their
cultures because they think its not important, it’s just an old style. It can
make us look like old people.
Ladies
and gentlemen.
Here
we are as the young generation of Balinese people have to maintain our
beautiful and unique cultures. We have to keep our cultures still exist in the
future. Why should we do that? Yes, of course,
because we do not want these cultures stuck only until our generation. Our
children and even our grandchildren also have a chance to see the unique and
beautiful cultures of their ancestors.
Ladies
and gentlemen,
We
should be proud to have cultures which have been known in the international
world. And it’s our duty as the young generation to take a part in maintaining
our cultures and its outstanding values. Well, ladies and gentlemen there many
things that we can do in maintaining our art and cultures. Lets begin from
little things, for the example :
- In the school, from Elementary school until
Senior High school, the students have to learn about Balinese cultures. It can
be started by joining an extracurricular about traditional culture, such as
mekidung, mewirama, dancing, tabuh and others. It will help the students to
know more about their own culture and it will influence them to love their own
cultures.
- The second one, The role of the parents
in teaching their children about the Balinese cultures and its local values. As
we know that most of the children are really enthusiastically to know about
something new. It will be a chance for the parents to teach their children
about Balinese culture as young as possible, so that the culture will be
growing in their soul as they are growing up. It can be done by tell them how
to speak Balinese language, how to dance Balinese dances, how to mekidung, how
to make a Balinese food, we teach them until they have imagination to maintain
their cultures in the future.
- The next one is to do socialization
about culture. Because if we do not give a socialization about cuktures, many
people or young generations do not know about their own unique culture. On the
other hand, the socialization will show how important the cultures are. The
socialization means that we show the cultures to the public to increase their
care to maintain the cultures. For the example, every year the government hold
a PKB or Balinese cultures party to the society to show that Balinese cultures
is more beautiful than Western cultures.
- Moreover, we must be proud to be
Balinese. It means that we as Balinese people must be proud to show our
identity. Do you know that bali is an amazing place? Bali has a lot of names in
the international world. Like a thousand temple island, the Goddess island, a
paradise island and others. It means that bali is really famous. Why do we
leave our lovely culture just to follow
another culture which is not sure to be good with us?
- And the last one is to filter the
western cultures. We have to be smart in
choosing the better cultures which will not give a bad effect for our own
cultures and which will not change our real culture
Well
Ladies and gentlemen
From
all of those things that I say above, it can help us as Balinese people to maintain
our own cultures. Because we have to be proud of it. We can show to the world how amazing bali is. So,
automatically we can save our cultures
for the next generations.
It’s
just simple things from many things that we can do. Therefore , it is necessary
for the next generation to increase our awareness in preserving art and
culture. Foreign tourist are happy to learn about our culture, why we don’t?
Shortly, If we don’t preserve our cultural heritage, who else will? Let’s start
from ourselves to instill patriotism, love our traditional art and culture.
This is our culture! Our identity! And our duty!
That’s
all the speech I could reveal. Please forgive me for my mistakes on my words.
Thank you for the attention.
